Divided Stories

Th ree decades, of lives lost.
Divided stories.
Cold as bitter frost.

Memories of the dead,
are misused again, and again.
Politicians, play petty games,
of ‘us’ and ‘them’.

Notions of truth, are torn apart.
The rumor mills, pour scorn.

Divided Stories

Sean Maguire with a poem from a published collection of his work.

A great time was had rambling
through the four green fields, where myths of Míse Eire grew.
I was amazed, at the power
 summertime yields.

A riot of colours swept barren land
where dead bodies routinely
appeared.

I wiped my eyes, lost in a trance,
watching blooming flowers,
sway in a ceilidh dance.

Sweeping The Landscape

Sean Maguire with a poem from a published collection of his work.

You took me to the spot, where your
dad was shot.
You placed a red rose on a smooth
 wooden cross,
bearing his name.
You wept, wildly. Collapsing, like
rubble in my arms.

It was a terrible shock, to see your body
rock to and fro.
I did not know, how to relate to this
  tragic fate.

Twenty years, had elapsed since he was taken,
without a fight in the dead of night.
The sadness, will never leave; whilst you are
 fit to breathe.

A Solemn Place

Sean Maguire with a poem from a published collection of his work.

A full read book drenched in dull red
wine
from a glass of half-slept dreams.

A body old before his time,
trapped in childhood screams.

Sinking to the lowest ebb,
peeling layers from dead skin.

A broken fist, raised a toast to a
tangled brain,
in a spider’s web.
