Calvary Cemetery
49-02 Laurel Hill Boulevard
Woodside, NY 11377

Driving Directions

Calvary Cemetery is located in the Woodside-Long Island City area of the Borough of Queens, New York. Because of the size of Calvary it is important to know which of the four subdivisions one intends to locate. The office is located in Second Calvary. The cemetery is easily reached from the Queensboro (59th Street) bridge, from the Robert F. Kennedy (Triboro) bridge, from the Brooklyn Queens Expressway (Route 278), and from the Long Island Expressway (Route 495).

From Midtown Manhattan: Use the Queensboro (59th Street) Bridge to Queens Boulevard. Proceed on Queens Boulevard to the 52nd Street entrance of the cemetery. The office location is indicated by posted signs within the cemetery.

From Eastern Queens & Long Island: Take the Long Island Expressway (Route 495) to the Brooklyn Queens Expressway (Route 278). Follow the signs and exit at 48th Street. When reaching the 48th Street intersection, proceed on the exit ramp to the traffic light and continue straight ahead on Laurel Hill Boulevard to the cemetery office which is located one-half block ahead on the right side.

From Brooklyn & Staten Island: Take the Brooklyn Queens Expressway (Route 278) to Exit 35 (48th Street). Turn left onto 48th Street and proceed to the traffic light. Turn right on Laurel Hill Boulevard and proceed to the office which is located one-half block ahead on the right side.

From Westchester & the Bronx: Take the Robert F. Kennedy (Triboro) Bridge to the Grand Central Parkway. Exit onto the Brooklyn Queen Expressway (Route 278) to Exit 39E (Queens Boulevard & 58th Street). Continue straight from the exit ramp along the expressway to the first traffic light. Continue straight under the expressway for approximately 1/2 mile to the cemetery office which is located on the left side.

9:30 am Woodlawn Cemetery

10:30 Keane’s Restaurant

On the closest Sunday to the date of the April 24, 1916 Easter Rising, CnSN/NIFC will commence its 2019 Easter Commemoration at the grave of CnSN/NIFC co-founder and unrepentant Fenian, Joe Stynes, in Woodlawn Cemetery, Webster Ave. and 233rd St., Bronx, NY 10470, at 10:00am. Grave location: Rose Hill Plot, North Border Rd., corner of Elder Ave. Directions to and within the cemetery are printed on the back of this page. Please feel free to bring your family and friends. This year’s theme is the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence at the first Dáil Éireann.

The commemoration will begin at 9:30 sharp.

An Irish brunch buffet will follow at 10:30 at Keane’s Bar and Restaurant, 4340 Katonah Avenue, Bronx, NY 10470. Keane’s is less than ½ mile from the cemetery. Tickets are $25 and are available at the door. Children under 14 are free.

At Keane’s we will present the 2019 Michael and Pearl Flannery Spirit of Freedom Award to Gary Delaney. A souvenir journal is being produced to mark the event. It is an ideal opportunity to place a testimonial ad for our honoree, or as a memorial ad for the many activists and friends who, after having faithfully done their part for Irish freedom have passed on. By placing an ad acknowledging their contributions, you will help insure that they are remembered and honored as sons and daughters of Irish Freedom. The closing date for ads is April 10th. We hope you will join us at the restaurant for good food and fellowship.

For more information, contact Jane at 718-683-6903 or Maggie at 845-492-7198.

Regards,
Maggie Trainor, Chairperson
