Haha calling the bible fake news is wonderfully bitchy AM. This was the conference that was $200+ for a ticket I think? In terms of censorship, what is taking place on social media, primarily against self described right-wingers should not be being cheered on by their opponents. Although these companies are private, and not obliged to carry all opinions, these methods will undoubtably be extended to all inconveniant opinions if not challenged and reversed. Incidentally, Ive seen several unconnected politcal people (Linda Sarsour and Richard Spencer to name two) mention that their iphones were being spontanously wiped, it seems the state is practising something to shut down people who have a voice.

Bad hair day Anthony? Seriously though, well said.

DaithiD,

it is a wonderfully true description of the bible.

The conference cost me nothing. Can't recall if there was a charge for those who attended.

Pastor Martin Niemöller comes to mind when I hear of the Left cheering the censorship of the right.

AM,lucky for you,you elitist!

Steve R, the most interesting people usually are like that. Even his delivery, reminds me of listening to Chomsky for the first time, no bombast or flourish, the arguement is what should be focussed on.(I know you arent neccesarilly being serious)

Good piece on the necessity of free speech, Anthony. It errs, however, when it assumes the Bible lay behind the Catholic Church's behaviour. That institution has long ago abandoned anything but itself as its source of authority. Many of its doctrines are distinctly unbiblical, and its practices even more so.

There is no separate priesthood in the Church Christ set up - every member is a priest. And that's the source of Catholicism's historic departure from Biblical doctrines. Making people dependent on a clergy to reach God, the power of the confessional, etc. No wonder they could cover-up their paedophiles. Any organisation or group may contain abusers, but it takes a really corrupt one to tolerate and protect such. The Bible condones no such behaviour in the Church:

1 Corinthians 5:9 I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people. 10 Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. 11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner—not even to eat with such a person.
12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? 13 But those who are outside God judges. Therefore “put away from yourselves the evil person.”

The term 'fundamentalism' covers every belief system that claims to have found the truth. So to use it disparagingly of religion is unhelpful. Your self-confessed quest is to find Truth, and you rightly see free speech as a main means of arriving there. But when you do, you become a fundamentalist.

I truly hope you do not mistake any man-made ideology for the Truth. We've seen what unbiblical religion can do, and we've seen what Marxism can do. I commend the gospel of Christ's kingdom to you instead. Those whom the Son sets free, are free indeed!

Wolfsbane,

I prefer Stieg Larsson to the authors of the bible. But whatever fiction floats your boat.
