New Year Statement From James Connolly Society Scotland

The James Connolly Society Scotland Issue New Year Statement For 2017.

‘Opportunities are for those that seize them… the coming year may be as bright as we choose to make it’ – James Connolly, 1st January 1916

The James Connolly Society extends New Year greetings to our members, activists and supporters. We also take this opportunity to offer solidarity to communities and organisations we have worked in partnership with throughout 2016.

For the JCS 2016 has been a year of activity, political development and membership expansion, as well as a time of reflection and commemoration. The James Connolly Society celebrated our 30th anniversary which provided us with an opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved and consider what remains to be done. We also played a full role in many events commemorating the centenary of the Easter Rising and James Connolly’s role within that revolution.

As 2016, with all its significance, comes to a close we must look forward and focus on the challenges ahead. For the JCS that means rededicating ourselves to celebrating the life and work of James Connolly. Our focus will remain firmly fixed on James Connolly’s life rather than his death and in particular the 150th anniversary of Connolly’s birth in Edinburgh in 2018.

The James Connolly Society has repeatedly risen to the challenge and adapted to changed circumstances. As we move into 2017 that organisational discipline and political commitment will be vital as we advance our strategy. The politics of James Connolly have never been more relevant. A working class organisation such as the James Connolly Society has never been more needed.

James Connolly is both a son of Edinburgh and figure of international significance. The JCS are committed to putting James Connolly and his politics at the centre of all we do. An independent organisation offering a progressive working class perspective. There has never been a better time to join the James Connolly Society and play your part.
