Local RIGHT2WATER campaigners announce Local Protest/Gathering for Sat 23rd Jan

Local Right2Water campaigners have today announced plans to hold a gathering on Sat 23rd January at 3pm until 4pm at St. Peters on West Street Drogheda to highlight the ongoing demand for the abolition of water charges. Nearly 30 different events are planned in a range of locations from Louth to Cork, and a full list of events, venues and times is available.

The Right2Water Campaign stated:

As the Government parties gear up for a General Election, they need to be told loud and clear that public opposition to water charges remains unabated – and will be reflected in the ballot box come polling day, Not only are water charges being used to give tax breaks to the richest in society and corporations but this Government have now opened the door to the privatisation of our human Right2Water. We are the only EU country with zero water poverty because we already pay for our water through progressive general taxation based on need, not means. We are determined it will stay that way.

Local Right2Water event organisers, Anthony Connor of Direct Democracy Ireland and Imelda Munster of Sinn Fein, said that the planned event is part of the national campaign plan for the 23rd to mobilise people in every town and village across the state to send a clear pre-election message to the government TD's and Ministers, that the Water Tax issue has not gone away despite their wishful thinking, we are asking the people of Drogheda and surrounding areas to do itself proud and mobilise once again like they have in the past for the most important Protest/Gathering in the jaws of the General election.

Anthony Connor promised a fun family event with music and banners. There will be guest speakers on the day and all are welcome to attend.
