Christy Walsh Hunger Strike: Day 20

Christy Walsh on Day 20 of his hunger strike with a copy of an email he sent this morning to Stormont First Minister Peter Robinson and his deputy, Martin McGuinness.

Dear Messrs Robinson & McGuinness

Today marks my 20th day on Hunger-strike and still neither of you have responded to reasonable requests.

I am not a Dissident, I do not support Dissidents, and, I would appeal to them to stop their violence.

I am not a criminal and refuse to be criminalized by the Power Sharing Executive as a means of covering up prosecutorial misconduct.   Since my abduction at gun point by the notorious Parachute Regiment the LAW has always been on my side, but, its human element has not.  In the 1970's graffiti close to my home in the Beechmount area of West Belfast read as follows: "When those who make the law, break the law, then there is no law."  That is as true today as it was back then.

I would also like to remind you of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and its preamble, which, in part, reads:

Whereas it is essential, if man is not to be compelled to have recourse, as a last resort, to rebellion against tyranny and oppression, that human rights should be protected by the rule of law ...

I do not support Dissidents but you both fed them by abusing your own laws as you each cover-up for the professional misconduct of your Justice Minister, David Ford, and the Lawyers involved.

The fact that neither of you have responded to my reasonable requests does not make you both tougher than the 'Iron Maiden', Maggie Thatcher, but weaker than her.   I will not be criminalized by David Ford, nor Peter Robinson, nor by Martin McGuinness.

After 20 days of hunger-strike my resolve is as determined as ever.

Yours Sincerely
Christy Walsh
