Councillor Brendan Curran's Resignation Speech

A former Sinn Fein councillor, Brendan Curran of Newry and Mourne District Council, publicly resigned from the council last week during a speech in the chamber. The Sinn Fein chair of the council sought to muzzle him. When that failed Sinn Fein councillors vacated their seats reportedly hoping that Brendan Curran's statement would not go on the official record. Official or not it is now on the record.

In his speech Brendan Curran hit out at his former party's attempt to sabotage public understanding of sex abuse in the Newry and Mourne area. He also made strong charges against a Stakeknife type character at the heart of Sinn Fein in the area.
