GARC Criticise Martin Óg Meehan

GARC issued the following statement yesterday.

The Collaboration of Martin Óg Meehan with Loyalists

On Saturday 24th January GARC were contacted by a prominent former Republican POW from Tyrone. This individual's brother had been engaged in a Twitter debate with a Loyal Order figure who is also a member of a prominent Loyalist family in the Ballysillan area of North Belfast.

In the course of this debate, the loyalist suggested that GARC were split and this was refuted. In an attempt to back up his argument, the loyalist privately messaged this individual with screenshots of a private Twitter conversation he had engaged in with Martin Og Meehan. In this screenshot, Meehan passes him a comment made by Dee Fennell on Facebook relating to armed actions by Republicans, suggesting that loyalists "use this."

Further on in the conversation, Meehan says that Dee Fennell " is hated in Ardoyne and needs took down a peg or two. You should expose him." The loyalist, in further conversations with the individual from Tyrone, indicated that this screenshot was only to "prove" the divisions in GARC. He also indicated that he had numerous screenshots of conversations with Meehan.

The screenshot of the described conversation was then passed to Dee Fennell, our Chairperson. He called to Meehan's home, accompanied by a well respected former IRA POW from Ardoyne who has known Meehan for decades, on the afternoon of Sat 24th January. Meehan was challenged in regards to the screenshots, and denied sending the messages while accepting the Twitter account was his. He was asked to open his laptop in the kitchen and go through his Twitter messages with the ex POW, while Dee Fennell remained in his living room. Despite being asked on several occasions, with the seriousness of the matter spelt out, he refused to do so. On leaving the house, he was again asked, to which he replied - "I refuse."

As Martin Og Meehan was a member of RNU, GARC immediately contacted their Belfast leadership, and passed the information available on to them. We gave an obligation not to discuss the matter publicly until their detailed investigation had concluded.

Tonight they have released a statement which publicises his expulsion from their organisation. GARC welcomes this development. We have also been informed that like many political, community, sporting and youth organisations, RNU continue to fully support the analysis and strategy of GARC. We welcome this also.

The activities of Martin Og Meehan were intended to undermine the integrity of our Chairperson, Committee, Residents and the valuable work we do. They were an attempt to cause division from within. Along with those he collaborated with, he has failed.

Martin Og Meehan is tonight isolated and alone, found guilty of collaborating and colluding with loyalists, after passing information to them about a respected Republican and Community Activist. A community that has suffered so much through collusion, will no doubt be scathing in their reaction to one of our own for assisting loyalists.

For the record, GARC remain united and retain the overwhelming support of Ardoyne, Marrowbone, Mountainview and Dales residents. We will continue to campaign and work to benefit this community through radical and innovative action, assisting and advocating for residents on a daily basis. We move forward with renewed energy and enthusiasm, and thank residents for their continued support.

GARC will make no further public comment on this matter.

  1. Coming as it does hot on the heels imo of possibly the best piece of work todate by GARC ie,.highlighting the discrimination by Belfast city council in funding leisure facilities in N.Belfast, this stinks it smacks dirty tricks, when at last we see our communities getting off their knees someone or thing always seems to pop up to divide and splinter us, are we going to take forever to break the stranglehold quisling $inn £eind and their masters have imposed on these areas,it certainly seems so when we read the likes of this.

Were comments alleged by martin og not true? Is martin or any one else not allowed to discuss with loyalists? Should any person be publically demonised in this way without any form of evidence?

  3. I have thought about this piece since first reading it prior to uploading. My view is that Meehan's actions don't remotely approach collaboration with loyalists. I will throw up a piece outlining my own thoughts on it this evening.

  4. I know if anyone came to my house insisting I give them open access to my computer I'd break down laughing before leaving a midget sized bootie in their bollix. Storm in a tea cup which merely confirms deep fears about the level of wit among those in the dissos. A confirmation reinforcing the view that only those desperate for jail grub would venture near any of them. Mi5 my hole, bunch of people with nothing else to do but turn on each other.

  5. I agree with the bootie in the bollix! Must of learnt it from Gerry and the bouys guilty on till proven inoccent!
The prominent jinny Anne from Tyrone has some time on his hands running around telling tales! Wonder is she brave enough to put her name forward or is she like the British gossip merchants having the need for anominity! How the feck people fall for this crap I don't know! The issue is that it suits the British agenda of destroying the memory of iconic republican name, wether its price Meehan or sands, which the Brits seem to actively doing! They can't do it alone though !

  6. Mackers a chara, I appreciate your blog highlighting this ridiculous smear upon my character...At no time did I send or receive any private messages from any Loyalist whatsoever and ensure everyone that at NO time have ever 'colluded' with Loyalists to demean or cause any kind of dissension within GARC, the Republican Family or for that matter the Greater Ardoyne community!
What I believe has happened is that my twitter was hacked in some way by whoever (I don't know) with the intention of causing serious problems within GARC and of course Republicans in Belfast! As we all now know, that has happened without any proof whatsoever! My laptop was searched by an independent IT expert and nothing of that alleged myself was found. Regardless, there are those within GARC and of course Republicanism in Belfast who chose to believe easily manipulated tweets that a GCSE Student could conjure up and decided to jump on the bandwagon! My life and that of my Wife and two kids has been thrown into turmoil these past two weeks! I intend clearing my name against every unsubstantiated claim against me and look forward to my critics experiencing serious egg on their faces chara. Until then, Slan.

  7. Martin og I personally wish you had issued this statement at the time of the GARC statement, I for one do not give a fuck if you were debating with loyalists ,lots of that goes on here and no one has ever been slandered,if you are guilty of anything worse then those who accuse you of such need to proffer evidence that is incontrovertible or put it simply put up or shut up, the only winners that I can see in this whole sorry saga are the quisling bastards who would dearly love to see GARC fractionalised and of course the orange order, rather than slinging eggs a cara it may be better pulling in the horns and get sitting around a table and talking, united we stand divided we fall has never been more true as it is now a leader of men must be prepared to grasp the nettle and do what is necessary to ensure his community is not once again left to the mercy of our enemies .

  8. Martin og, Marty's comment above is right...I said similar on another thread on this site from Macker's writeup on this. I thought it was a setup from the start from loyalists and people are to quick to jump on the band wagon without any evidence shown. I'm was not one of those people. I do recall from a previous time that there was a fake Ardoyne Republican twitter page that didn't last long, but it just goes to show what loyalists would do to stir the pot and to score some points...it's petty, but that is what they are like. I tried to email you, but it wasn't working my post returned undelivered.
