  2. That could be any of a number of reasons and it’s possible that they all had to vacate the building at a predetermined time, saying that it’s extremely difficult to stand alone in front of an audience while being filmed and have a one sided discussion and I think there should’ve been a few more experienced veteran republicans there so that they could’ve bunched ideas and knowledge off each other.

I remember attending a Mickey Devine Hunger Strike debate in Derry around 15 years ago were Tommy was a guest speaker in a similar context as in these videos. I myself have never met the man but a brother of mine served time alongside him in the H-Blocks in the 1980s and I would have a lot of time for him because he has stood by his convictions and his heart is in the right place. He also has my utmost respect for the personal loss and sacrifices which he and his immediate family endured for Irish freedom during the conflict such as his involvement in the Blanket & Dirty protests and his participation in the 1980 Hunger Strike which very nearly killed him and lastly but in no way least, the loss of his 3 brothers in the conflict.

There's not many people in Ireland who can say they gave more than the McKearney family did towards Irish Freedom.

  3. i know that and ive the height of respect for him - good speaker, but there were some sound aul dubs there sayin their bit and i was enjoyin the chat, it was good the first two or three people from the audience brought up our 'psychological'issues. i think irish republicans should get real about the type of country we live in ,we are a minority and always were and 1916 comms should not shy away, (however disturbing the subject is), should not shy away from the relentless genocide the gaels endured. ive stopped gettin angry at irish shoneens sleeveeens and gombeens because we are this weak for a reason.

  4. A worthwhile gathering in Club na Múinteorí organised by the Seán Heuston 1916 Society. Not too sure that the event lived up to its billing mind you. It was interesting to note the exasperation felt by the various commentators in relation to sovereignty, participation in public life, engagement with the wider citizen body etc. Overall the event was a heartening step forward from the miasma of provisionalism.

  5. Grouch,

Have to admit this made me laugh:

“whats mckearney in a rush for, i stopped watchin this half way thru the second video because i got pissed off at him looking at his watch and going on about time.”

My solution to the watching videos of people speaking is to put on the headphones and not watch but listen.
Perhaps it was subliminal as we need time to reflect and rebuild time to address “the mess” north and south.

  7. Grouch,

Not sure about the tae or even a window being cracked if the message is important enough then I would expect to endure a wee bit of discomfort.

Tommy always makes a lot of sense and in my opinion is worth listening to.
I have been to worse that I could only describe as farcical.

The message is sound enough as for the atmosphere inside the room it is only a reflection of the suffocation and discomfort of our politics being in a mess outside.
