PSNI need buffer to combat riots

John Coulter with a piece arguing that A Bible-bashing God squad could bring calm to the North. It initially featured in the Irish Daily Star 0n 19 August 2013

The PSNI need a buffer organization between themselves and the North's rioting communities to bring peace back to our streets. The cop union's call for a six-month ban on all parades to restore order has fallen in deaf ears.

Top Cop Matt Baggott is reported to be a born again Christian, and the clerics needs to get out of their pulpits and into the parishes if Baggie's calls for calm are to be heeded.

In reality, the only group which can breach the gap between the police leadership and the two communities is the Christian Police Association of Northern Ireland.

This is one occasion when the Bible could be a source of calming stormy waters rather than being misquoted to stir sectarian tensions.

I've already been told a new dissident loyalist terror movement of three-man cells is being formed to attack the police, Sinn Féin, and Parades Commission members.

The key loyalist strategist revealed the cells also planned to attack a future republican parade – preferably a dissident one – with snipers.

In an equally chilling warning, the loyalist strategist behind the planned movement said that some DUP politicians "who have let the loyalist people down" would also be targets.

In an exclusive interview, he told me:

Unionism needs strong leadership at this time from the top. We are not getting this from either the DUP or UUP. We need a traditional unionist from the old school of Unionism to lead us.

We cannot see the point of attacking the Irish Republic as the battle will be in Northern Ireland. There is no point in adopting the republican view that one bomb in London is worth 100 in Belfast. We will get no support if we target places in Great Britain.

The DUP is heading for a downfall because it has lost the discipline at grassroots level. The PSNI cannot live in Protestant areas without the support of the Unionist people.

This is not like the early Drumcree standoffs where many of the police officers were locals and known to people. Many of these riot cops used against the loyalists are from outside Northern Ireland, so we won't be shooting our own.

The loyalist strategist's chilling warning sparked memories that the first police officer to die in the past Troubles was 29-year-old Protestant Victor Arbuckle who was shot dead by the UVF in the loyalist Shankill during serious rioting.

My source claimed the key pulses of the new loyalist dissident movement would be East Belfast, the Shankill, Whiterock, Carrickfergus and Coleraine:

Sinn Féin is trying to create a situation whereby dissident republicans fall into line behind the mainstream republican  movement. The effect of our campaign will be to bring British troops back onto the streets of Ulster – which is what Sinn Féin certainly doesn't want.

But the gamble we are taking is that if the Army does come back, would they start shooting at us loyalists? We have to be very careful how we organise as loyalism – like the dissident republicans – has been totally infiltrated by MI5 and MI6.

The dissident republicans use cells of five members, but these can be infiltrated by the security forces, so we will use cells of three. MI5 and MI6 are now so sophisticated that you can no longer use conventional electronic devices.

It's like the honeycomb effect – just because you empty one comb doesn't mean the whole honeycomb is emptied. The smaller the cell, the more effective we become. The weakness will always be on how we train a cell.

There are people in loyalism who would sell themselves for a pint of beer. The lone wolf tactic of a single terrorist acting alone, which isfavour by the extreme Right, is no use as people are not fully trained.

Once an overall training network is set up, that's when it becomes infiltrated by MI5 and MI6.

  1. I have a few questions, this development.

If this is the case, and this new sectarian loyalist group takes off, how will the new middle class graduate SF'er react?

Will we see a mass exodus from SF?

How will the loyalists be faced down?

If this is a PUP tactic to bring in fresh blood and gain electoral support, it will end in simple sectarian killings, as history has shown, you cannot tame the loyalist sectarian beast, as it is culture based. You will also get the UDA puffing there chests outs resulting in sectarian competition.

Working class loyalists need to realise, it is not the fenians stripping their culture, their culture is non sustainable in modern society if it is based on purely racial/sectarian prejudice.

Their is no strategy in this at all. It is purely a sectarian development. Nothing more nothing less, I hope it is all pure bullshit from Coulture.

  2. Gusty Spence murdered Peter Ward in nothing more than a purely sectarian bloodlet in 1966, the first RUC man const Arbukle was as said murdered by his own community, the first explosions of the last round of troubles was caused by the so called uvf, the uda declared war on the brits in the early 70,s ,it lasted about 24 hours, these gangs of sectarian thugs survived only because the special branch and brit int used them, to even contemplate a bomb in London must bring into question who the fuck these eejits are really loyal to, dangerous eejits granted but in all honesty those hero,s of the Rising Sun and Greysteele and their elite wing of butchers are a by product of big house unionism and as such like unionism of the Nixon ,Craig,Carson Paisley style they are becoming less and less relevant in this artificial state, using tactics of the past will no longer work in subduing the nationalist population here or intimidate the Westminster government into giving them back a"wee six "for them to march all over, the days of the Billyboys are numbered they need to catch themselves on and try and build bridges with their neighbours if not they may find that the big bossmen may take away their nice wee earners in community jobs and drug dealing.

  3. This guy is making some very serious comments in regards to dissident loyalist grouping. To mention South East Antrim as a main theater for this action is strange. Why Carrick? Snipers? really. For this 3 man cell nonsense, the RHC and UVF have operated this way for many years. Nothing new there. Yet he seems to direct it across as if it is some amazing tactical breakthrough. If this were to even happen, I doubt the UVF leadership and certainly the mainstream UDA would allow these people to operate. There is no support beyond a tiny minority within Protestant areas for any return to conflict. Nobody wants it.

  5. MichaelHenry-

This Coulter guy should be a stand up comedian. He is great. Perhaps even work for the Sunday World. Just make up whatever. Next this dissident grouping will have nuclear blast bombs and be building a loyalist refuge on the moon.

  6. Maitiu,

I find it easier to ignore his articles as rarely does he make a good point for either side of the divide but leans heavily on imaginary scenarios more power to his elbow.
Often more than not his words sound like he is just taking the piss and dousing the embers with verbal petrol.

  7. I find John's articles to be ludicrous and of such a fantastically nature that I've long suspected this lecturer in journalism is engaged in a project to expose the levels of unreferenced farfetched nonsense the Irish media will print as fact.

If this isn't the case I won't say what i think of these contributions other than they rarely add anything close to believable to discourse.

  11. ( Ignore my last one please Anthony, I noticed a few spelling mistakes, here is my edited and corrected reply)

In regards to Obama. We do on the bright side have his envoy of Hass coming to brighten our lives up next week. Perhaps he will realize the sheer heartbreak suffering of the Twaddel "civil rights" camp protesters and their plight of not being able to walk home. Perhaps he will head butt Winky into a state of sense. I could not help chuckle at the Irish News this morning. 4 rather large well fed orange order / bands men sat in their civil rights caravan which is so tastefully decorated with rangers seat covers. They claim they will be there for ever if need be. One orange man stated that instead of expecting the tax payer to foot the bill, to send the bill for all the policing to the parades commission. Ignoring the fact that the PC is funded by the tax payer. However, if anything like the flag protests, it will hopefully fizzle out. I am however nervous about the event next Saturday they will yet again cost millions in lost revenue and of course, much much more damage created from burnt out cars and violence. Last night at the Short Strand, I watched a crowd of loyalists, grown men and women, egging kids on to attack the Strand. 9 year old kids shouting " F***ing taigy bastards" and other such pleasant remarks. I could not help think about the phrase " we wont be the generation to fail Ulster". They certainly are failing themselves and those adults are setting these kids up for a life of failure.
On the Shore Road / Tigers Bay area today, I noticed they are now flying RAF flags. 15 years ago, RAF and Naval members had to keep being in the military a secret and even advised not to live in loyalist areas due to safety. Now in 2013 loyalists have suddenly decided to love the military. I do not support the military at all, but I do have family in Scotland whom served in the RAF during WW2 and Korea and they would be disgusted at bigots using their flag as nothing more than a sectarian symbol to mark territory like a dog pissing on a lamp post.

Why not John? Spooks are generally playing catch up.

On a basic level John, what if your router was cracked (hacked). It is very easy, even if you hide your network. And a rogue trader starts downloading illegally on your IP things that maybe of use to a terrorist. Then what?

There are some very good encryption tools out there too.

I ccannot think of anything that has damaged Ireland more than religion apart from the Brits and i am ex catholic but remain a believer in Jesus. Secular approach is best How do Christian coppers differ? Do they manage to disengage from corruption, inflicting brutality and such... I'd trust a copper as much as I'd trust a priest, nun, minister, loyalist NOT AT ALL.
