Antediluvian Behaviour Perpetrated by Loyalists

Moya St Leger with a letter to the Irish News that featured on 16th July 2013.

Dear  Sir,

Is  there no sense of embarrassment within the Unionist community about the moronic  behaviour of loyalists in the Woodvale area of Belfast?

Are  Unionists so detached from the rest of the world that they cannot see the damage being done to the reputation of Northern Ireland by the violence fuelled by  the Orange Order and perpetrated by the antediluvian "No Surrender"  culture of militant 'loyalists'?

The  example set by PSNI Chief Constable, Matt Baggott, in  criticizing those within the Orange Order who had called for the  protests against a Parades Commission decision, should be followed  by the condemnation of a senior Presbyterian minister. The disgraceful  placing of a statue of Mary on the
loyalist bonfire at Lanark Way requires  some sort of response from a senior Protestant pastor. The silence of  Protestant churches could be interpreted as tacit support?

The  statue was rescued, but are there really  no depths to which the lower end of Protestant society will sink to demonstrate  their loyalty to the Crown?

Unless  the Orange Order starts accepting that their artificial supremacy in Northern Ireland is now dead and buried, and faces up to the provision in the GFA for a  united Ireland, the 12th of July will remain a date when Northern Ireland  is shamed in full view of the world's media by so-called 'loyalists' who, I  would guess, cause annual embarrassment the Crown.

  1. Moya as you well know a cara the so called loyal orders are really the thug wing of big house unionism ,used to keep their own in place and with the tried and tested use of sectarian bigotry the communities are kept divided, big house unionism may have had its day but their evil creation remains and now controled by the arch bigots in the dup, to date 75 arrests have been made re the recent disorder at Woodvale yet not one high ranking orangeman has been scooped even though a number of them including the ex special branch man and uvf spokesman the so called Merv Gibson have been clearly guilty of incitement, republicans cant even hold a piece of paper without getting interned for years, its going to be interesting to see how many orangemen get sent down for attempted murder .I,d hasard a guess at none ... the orange order does not need to apologise it needs to fuck of period...

  2. I had to google ' Antediluvian. I've never heard that word before.

    Basically it's this..

    1
: of or relating to the period before the flood described in the Bible

    2
a : made, evolved, or developed a long time ago

b : extremely primitive or outmoded

Anyhow I'd like to dedicate this song to the leadership of the Orange Order.

  3. Moya st Legar-

" is there no sense of embarrassment within the Unionist community "-

Very little but its starting-Basil McCrea MLA spoke out against the orange order and would not vote on a motion supporting the order only
for him to be verbally assaulted by
Willie Frazer up at Stormont-such is democracy here-

I don't think that the PSNI would have stopped the orange brethren by themselves that's why the G8 officers from Britain were brought over to give them some back-bone at Ardoyne-another march tomorrow with the same orange men stopped result-but its tomorrow night which could see the most bother-

  4. The OO have instigated trouble by stating, "There will be protests".

The ordinary Working class Protestant people are be mislaid by the OO , The ordinary working class protestant will never be free to choose between unification and modernisation whilst they listen to the OO money makers while the ordinary genuine working class protestant listen to those hypocrites who tie them to the 1690's, they do it for no other reason but to line their pockets.
Do I hate a person because He or She is a Protestant, NO, and , I don't have any reason to do so, never had, and , never will.

It's only when the working class protestant's realise they are being hoodwinked by the OO.

Traditions can lead to the route of all evil on both sides of the divide.

My sincere message to the ordinary working class people is , will the OO pay you any money back when you loose your job because of all the strife and rioting which is going on, "NO" , they wait until they are sure you have enough fuel (alcohol) and beat the auld Lambeg harder and harder to make your blood boil, then they will turn up with there red (whiskey) face inciting you to attack your catholic neighbors , when the police arrive they are the first to retreat, It happens on our side as well, but , we have wised up to it, They never get arrested, they never get charged, Its just the poor working class on both sides of the divide who end up before the courts. So I would like to give a genuine and truthful message to the working class people of Norn Iron , we , Catholics are not your enemy, your enemy is within the OO, just as our enemy is within SF.

  5. Marty, catch a grip please, you have to be Colin Duffy to get arrested by the new RUC when there's any trouble.
How many of the loyal protesters have been tried for blocking roads or assault following the 'flag protests' last year?
In answer, the criminal laws seem only to apply to troublesome taigs, unionists can, and always have, done what they want.

  6. I still don't understand why the Orange Order, Gerry Kelly & CARA and the rest of the players simply implement GARC's proposal and make the whole area a parade free zone to everyone.

Once the parade comes to the junction of the Ballysillan Road/Crumlin Road the parade walk's down Fourth River Rd. The residents of Twaddell Ave can walk down and meet their brethern and the junction of the Ballygomartin Road and every one meets up at Woodvale Pk and continue to the field.

The parade then goes through an area where it's wanted and respected. And when the speeches etc are over they go home the same route.

    It's not rocket science..

  8. Anthony...

Maybe some people within the OO need to do what I have and find out what Antediluvian means.

Antediluvian......extremely primitive or outmoded ....Say's it all.

The OO/PUL can brings thousands out on to the street in protest because their sense of Britishness is being eroded. They then attack the police. That doesn't seem to me as loyal to the state.

I'd like to see them mobilize the same numbers to march against austerity. Maybe they (OO) think that by wearing an orange colleratte they are some how immune from call me Dave's welfare, pensions, health, education cut backs.

They seriously need a reality check.

  9. Most interesting responses. Frankie, you naughty man. I laughed myself silly watching the A.....e song! I had no idea the word 'antediluvian' would get people googling it. How wonderful. That's exactly what I have to do to find out certain Irish terms or words. The paucity of my Irish vocabulary is embarrassing, and it all revolves around 'freedom' and 'Our Day coming' and 'Ireland for ever'! I need a year in the Gaeltacht. I would however wish to add a tiny detail to the point Frankie makes when he writes "their (loyalist) sense of Britishness is being eroded". All I would add is that it is manifestly clear their sense of Britishness is being kept alive by a very real fear because it is being undermined by the absence of any active support for it by British governments of modern times. This would be in line with the slowly, slowly policy of subtle withdrawal from Ireland at long last. I am British and proud of it, but OMG has it taken us centuries for the penny to drop that we were never entitled to any part of Ireland! And now, tomatoes at the ready: politically the Orange Order has of course had its day, bit at its best it embodies many sober Protestant virtues. The virulent anti-Catholicism of the Order in the North could easily give way in time to come to celebrating its historical and cultural significance in national history. OK OK, .... am friend not foe!
