Akerue, he has lost it.

Better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

Revisionist scribbler Daniel Dudley Morrison recently took time out, presumably with his publisher’s  approval, from penning his 250 volume Magnum Opus, Lies That I Have Told, to tell us even more of them; this time based on a remarkable discovery he feigned to have made.

Years ago when he was a republican, ostensibly anyway, I would read him a bit but these days with him using the pen bequeathed to him by the late Malachy McGurran, there simply isn’t the interest. Moreover, the type of fiction I prefer is usually Scandinavian crime. There is so much of it that it leaves little time to read what the revisionists are making up.

Most of us in our lives have experienced a Eureka moment: that flash of illumination that streaks across the frontal lobes bringing instant clarity as it heralds the discovery of that elusive something that has hovered beyond reach right up to the very second of its appearance. The exclamation comes from a mixture of relief and exhilaration. But if too eager to rush in the chickens mightn’t just hatch in the numbers expected. The joy of the Schadenfreude school is then enhanced when the explorer ends up screaming from their egg splattered dial ‘Akerue’ at what they have not found. Rotten fruit and offal is sure to follow the intrepid explorer to the stocks. One good reason I guess to sport a big broad hat. In this setting ‘Akerue’ sounds more like the excitable grunt emitted by a martial arts practitioner than the pleasurable announcement of a great find. If nothing else it helps broaden our understanding of the term ‘karate Dan.’

When our sightless oracle had his Akerue moment a week or two ago I learned of it from my wife’s laughter.  ‘Morrison has flipped’ she chortled. A journalist later rang me to say ‘it is now official, Danny is deranged.’ True or not it sure sounded funny. Estranged, from anything remotely republican, would be a more fitting term, while managing to retain enough of its phonetic similarity for Morrison not to notice the difference.

Morrison’s claim of a ground breaking discovery was a strange one because what it amounted to was a proclamation to the few who still bother to read him that he suffers from the same problem as the dyslexic pimp who bought a warehouse. He is baffled by the text. Estranged, deranged  ... his confusion is somewhat understandable.

So what have we got? Don’t let me shape your judgement. Have a read through the book of evidence and draw your own conclusions.  Apparently Ed Moloney has done something ‘unthinkingly’ – already we are being invited onto that Donald Rumsfeld terrain of ‘known unknowns’. Morrison knows that Moloney has unknowingly revealed ‘that getting Adams was part of his sham historic project!’ The sham project, if it needs mentioned at all, is Boston College’s oral history collection. Our wise owl hoots resentfully at the archive for having kick started the outing of his Dr Death role in the 1981 hunger strike. The ‘unthinking’ exchange – Morrison’s confirmatory evidence - took place between Moloney and Walt Ellis:

Moloney: Ah Walter! I had thought you dead and gone. Never a losing cause, just keeping my promise to people. If I do have an obsession it is with outing liars, which is why I write about Lance Armstrong! There is another outrageous liar with whom we are both familiar, me perhaps more than you. Wears a beard and used to puff on a pipe a lot. Write about him too. Suspect he may be heading for an Armstrong-like denouement as well.

Walt Ellis: I’m not dead yet. It just feels that way. I hope you’re not suggesting that a certain one-time barkeep, for whom power was the ultimate performance-enhancing drug, will one day soon be stripped of his many titles.

Moloney:  a former barkeep with a power complex? Who could you possibly be talking about?

Lance Armstrong finished the 2008 Boston Marathon in place 497, so that’s it. The dots are expertly joined. Boston and the liar Armstrong connected which means Gerry Adams was the prey. See how easy it is.  Armstrong is the Rosetta Stone with which the Moloney code has been lanced. Equipped with the genius deficiency necessary to foresee no IRA decommissioning by the year 3000 the eminent windtalker is, well, talking wind.

But if nothing else let us at least praise Morrison for his consistency. His latest pioneering work is not without precedent. This discovery is on a par with an earlier one he made public in the Guardian in March 2005 when the result of his then exploration into the Northern Bank robbery produced this: ‘I was convinced initially that the IRA did it ... When Adams and McGuinness robustly denied any involvement I changed my mind.’  A primus inter pares with an unrivalled ability to discover traces of truth in statements by Gerry Adams; a coveted trait certainly amongst analysts, a catch for any research institute.

What chance have defenders of the Belfast Project against such an experienced idiot? We should perhaps give up on the basis of the maxim never to argue with an idiot because they drag you down to their level, then beat you with their experience.

Time for The Wrong Man to switch from code breaking to mould breaking and get something right. He counted his apples, told us they were pears and now wonders why his whole enterprise has gone pear-shaped to the sound of raspberries.

  1. Anthony,

'With the right hat, nothing else matters.' (LaPaloma Hats)

I initially stumbled aross this revelation on Danny's subsidiary - Periscope. It struck me as more 'Desperate Dan' than 'karate Dan'. What interested me more was ODowd's claim as to you being a spokesperson for dissident republicans?

    Anthony are you a Shinner?

I found this funny reveals that getting Adams was part of his sham historic project!
Danny, if you are reading this..My take on the Belfast Project/Boston College tapes. The truth has to be told an unfortunatly the Armani suits in Stormount and Whitehall are either unable to tell the truth or don't want the truth outted.

So Ed and Anthony decided to talk some of those involved to tell their version of the truth on the pretext that their 'memories' would only be released after their deaths natural or otherwise.

Danny tell me whats wrong with that? I for the life of me can't see anything wrong with it.

Good luck getting a direct answer from Morrison he might peer in the window here but to my memory he has never graced the Quill with a word for some reason Shins and their supporters tend not to comment here.

  9. Anyone with more than one brain-cell or not in SF is a dissident.

Next time Mrtin stands with the Chief constabubble at Stormont Danny should be there too in PIRA fatigues just to eliminate any confusion.

Also, any IRA Vol' who died pre 1998 should go on the role of honour. Those after that date should go onto the plaque in their local RUC station. (as if they'd have them!) That should help ease the confusion I think.

Gerry Adams is an authority on all paramilitary groups because he was equally NOT a member of any of them. But closer to 'home'the BBC are looking him and Liam to co-host Blue Peter.

  10. Tain Bo, I live in hope that Danny, Gerry or someone from the board of directors that make up SF may as you said 'grace the Quill'. I had to ask Danny directly here because on his blog and Gerry's I can't find anywhere to post a comment, question anything they say etc...

Adams, a member of the Irish Republic’s parliament, has said he has nothing to fear from the college’s materials

Maybe Gerry has an piece of paper that stops him being prosecuted.

Maybe this is a stupid anology but if goverments can have state secrets for 30yrs becuase they want to protect the innocent or other..Why can't the same reasoning apply to the Belfast project?

  11. I really am of the opinion that even discussing anything that comes from the mouth of such a Walter Mittey is waste of space. as Murphy the wise one said "Never argue with a fool they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience"
Bangers took his broken car to be repaired, frightened it would cost him,but the mechanic fixed it in a few minutes "nothing serious Bangers just shit in your air filter""really" said Bangers"I,m ok at that how often do I have to do that ?"!!!!

Danny Morrison is not an idiot which makes the whole scenario even worse.
Danny got caught and in getting caught he seriously called into question the dual roles of many people in Sinn Fein.
Although he did do his best to flee the scene by running out the backdoor and demanding British compo for an unsafe conviction-he has never been able to worm his way back into Adams affection.
Strange that a man who built his reputation on self praise has ended up a shoe wipe for the biggest wiper of all.

"EXTRACTS from Bobby Sands’s hunger strike diary appear in a new book edited by, among others, the Academy-Award winning actor, Colin Firth. ‘The People Speak’ is also part of a multimedia project which includes a stage show which will bring to life the voices of campaigners, dissidents and visionaries."

    DANNY MORRISON http://www.anphoblacht.com/contents/22424

So according to Morrison it's acceptable to be a dissident as long as Colin Firth OKs it?

When you play Monopoly at that level the cards are a bit different one being immunity from the past and in Adams case what past or it could be another genuine case of political Alzheimer’s.
That makes a good argument for the Belfast Project as memory like time is passing on.

talking shite is the verbal manure that grows great imaginary legends. With SFs, golden rule there is only one narrative and that makes them all sound the same, which makes differentiating difficult.
The objective of a united Ireland was steamrollered by the ego of their leadership and that ego was super inflated by the British.
True to form, getting it backwards is a victory we are all supposed to be content with the loyalists got Stormont SF got legitimacy and a united Ireland was set back another 100 years. The only decent thing that has come out of it is the tentative peace its Northern Ireland and it does not take much to start it all over again.

  32. The headline had me fooled for a minute I thought it sounded like one of those Japanese cartoons “akerue” looking at the headline the second time I had an akerue moment but only a minor one unlike Morrison who discovered the true reason for the Belfast Project dismissing any remote possibility of documenting history.
The elaborate extreme undetermined duration plot to get the bearded one theory should be left in the fiction world. In fairness, he does have the beginnings of a Hollywood script.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Tain bo a cara good to hear from you,the only script I think Bangers could be writing is a sequel for one flew over the cuckoos nest, you need to be off your trolley to read his crap...

  34. Marty,

as always it is good to see you, I doubt many read the irrelevance of Morrison perhaps his nose is out of joint with the Belfast project as he had no iron in that fire but attempts to shape it to fit his world.
There is always the entertainment value.

    Best a luck mate.

  35. Nuala

you make a good point about the falling out he may not be an idiot but penning articles like his theory on the Belfast project being a conspiracy by Ed to get Adams clearly only shines the party fool light on him.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Mackers, Robert & Michael,
Seen the photo it is quite bizarre.
Would you seriously even get out of bed to carry on like that?

    Tain Bo,
Danny would say anything to get back into the fold, sadly for him it is never going to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Frankie,

Bangers has never found the truth a subject he wants to cover. He has always been a propagandist. He had a talent for it when he wrote against the state. Now that he is a defender of the state his writing is very stale and not very credible. Nor it seems did he ever believe his own propaganda. It is the case with revisionists in general.

One thing Bangers finds wrong with the Belfast Project is that it was the catalyst for outing his malign role in the hunger striker. At the end of the day, people like him render their own complaint null and void when Adams calls for people with any information on Jean McConville to give it to the PSNI.

And if he opted to post his comments here or even his articles they would be carried like the next person’s. No SF member or supporter has ever been turned away from here. But most of them want domination not debate.

Maybe Gerry has an piece of paper that stops him being prosecuted.

I believe that to be so but there is no guarantee that the Cameron government will honour it. It is screw the Shinner time if the Brits take the notion.

    Nuala,

Danny Morrison is not an idiot which makes the whole scenario even worse.

Just someone given to making idiotic statements.

Your take on him not being able to work his way back in is worth considering further. There is an interesting story there.

The Sandy house throws up more questions than it has ever answered.

    Tain Bo,

The headline was just Eureka spelt back to front just to underscore Bangers’ tendency to get things arse about face.

In fairness, he does have the beginnings of a Hollywood script.

    Dumb and Dumber.

  38. Anthony

I twigged on at my second glance at akerue and had a mini eureka moment not to worry he is in good company with the arse about face or farce about face brigade.
The war maybe over but the secrets of the long dirty war continue and an objection to the Belfast project sounds counter- intuitive to peace.
In the end game, volunteers were good enough to fight die and spend time in prisons but have no right to tell their story.
When the party surrendered, they tossed out the little green book Morrison attacking and ridiculing the project and those involved wreaks of lost control, which would explain conspiracy, and traitor rants.
In the interest of history and learning there should be more projects along the lines of the Belfast project.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Dixie,

As if a dissenting voice would ever be welcome in his circles. Maybe he should tell Colin why he has banned dissenting voices from the West Belfast Feile.

    Michaelhenry,

It was embarrassing. But it is what John believes and he asserts it.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Tain Bo,

‘lost control’ explains a lot in terms of the animosity. In his case I think being found out in relation to the hunger strike has driven him to hatred.

In the interest of history and learning there should be more projects along the lines of the Belfast project.

And not just for the Northern conflict but wider afield as well. Some of the stuff I read on Vietnam, Argentina and Rwanda was very stimulating. I am currently going through an oral history by Ken Wharton on the British Army in the North. Carrie got me it along with a lot of others for Christmas.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Anthony,

the hunger strike narrative certainly put him on tilt that becomes abundantly clear with his sniping at the Belfast project or more accurately you and Ed.
I do not see any reason to oppose the project Morrison prefers to feed the myths and with the project, he has no secure argument so he resorts to former ways with his Gypo Nolan twist.

On a lighter note, I am surprised you got anything for Christmas with your generous thoughtful list of gifts you were putting together for Carrie that one was a laugh it is nice to dream.
The book should be a good read it will be interesting to hear your take on it, as we tend to overlook that view of the conflict.
Nowadays I read at a snail’s pace so I am usually behind the times.

I wholeheartedly agree the further afield the better the concept is liberating and if it is possible to remove the shackles that secret armies impose we all gain a better insight.

All the best and a happy new year to you, Carrie, and the children not to forget the dog and thanks for another educational year on the Quill.
