Anthony, I wanted to let you know that I devoted my most recent blog missive to having decided to include The Pensive Quill to my blogroll.

Once again the people of Belfast,women in particular are being left traumatised by the actions of several groups of thugs who are hi-jacking cars in and around the Belfast area,is this sudden upsurge a resurgence of the dirty tricks depts of sb and mi5 who used £10 touts to terrorise these areas during their dirty war, or can you believe its just thugs copycating each other,the response from the elected representatives says a lot "be vigilant" yeah like be alert your country needs lerts! the psni/ruc arrest the thugs and release them within a few hours yet some have been lifted straight out of stolen vehicles,if the govt cant act and those enacted to protect and serve are not capable,then maybe we the citizens of this country should be allowed to carry arms in protection of life and property, I dont believe hijacking is a problem in Texas where the population are quite capable of defending themselves.

now we know the hunger strikers broke Thatcher but were denied their victory by men who steered them to certain death.
As you know Anthony death,or imprisonment was a distinct possibly one was told when joining the republican movement, yet still many grasped the nettle,how many would have joined if they had known that either death or imprisonment would come from the hands of the leadership of the republican movement,those brave men 12 in all would/ should be free today to pursue life as free men,either within or out of the movements they belonged their choice being their own, but as we now know they were sacrificed for political gain,by those who as you say steered them to certain death,hopefully in time ,sooner rather than later the wheels will come of their bus ,and all will see them for the ass,s that they are.

at the start I put it down to a faux pas on the part of the leadership. It happens and in the heat of the moment judgement calls are bound to be made which may come back to haunt you. But it is no reason to persecute the people who had to make the call.
What persuaded me there was something malevolent behind it was the way Morrison dealt with it. It is no exaggeration to say that he clinched the argument for O'Rawe and in doing so destroyed his own narrative.
The instinct was to suppress criticism rather than rolling with it. Such a price they have paid for that. I spoke with a British official one day about it all and their response was simple: 'look at what he did to the hunger strikers.'
Any man can make a mistake and the man that has,nt never made anything,you can forgive these things if the heart was true,but when we see how Richard O Rawe exposed these people and the business over Scap and Donaldson ,Davidson, John Joe, then you have to ask,really how many vols are dead today at the hands of these people,the brits must have been in awe at the cold hearted bastards who willingly set up those they called comrade,

for long enough I would have accepted that a mistake was made while always allowing for the very real possibility that the Great Leader done the boys in because it is so at one with his character. But the more I look at the way Danny Thumbs went for Richard it seems highly likely that he knowingly gave the boys the thumbs down as well.
